Amalfi Coast
Italy's most celebrated stretch of coastline, where terraced lemon groves drop into the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The Amalfi Coast runs for some fifty kilometres along the southern edge of the Sorrentine peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of pastel fishing towns, terraced lemon groves and switchback corniche roads. Beyond Positano and Amalfi itself there are quieter places: the hillside village of Scala, the ceramic workshops of Vietri sul Mare, the Valle delle Ferriere nature reserve, and the paper mills of Amalfi where sheets are still pressed by hand. Ferries connect the main towns in summer and are usually faster than the coastal road.
